About
Discipline is how I build.
I always knew what I wanted to build. What I did not understand was why I kept getting in my own way.
The years
The years I spent running.
When my father died, I did not cry. Not for years. I put my emotions on a shelf in my mind and carried on, and I told myself I was fine. What I was really doing was avoiding what I did not know how to face.
I carried that loss for fifteen years without recognising it for what it was: trauma I had never dealt with. Many people carry something like it and never name it. I did not.
That habit spread into my relationships, my work and my health. At my heaviest, I weighed 147.5 kg.
At work I was caught in a cycle. I would find a new idea, become completely absorbed, and throw myself into building. Then another opportunity would appear and my attention would move. I kept chasing the excitement of starting instead of building the discipline to finish.
I had ideas. I had experience. I could see opportunities others missed. What I lacked was consistency.
I kept mistaking motivation for progress. Every time I started again, I told myself this time would be different.
The turn
Then I asked why.
I reached a point where I needed to get away from everything. I went to Germany, not to start a business or reinvent myself, but to escape the life I had made.
One freezing night, alone in my apartment, I reached the lowest point of my life. It was where the breakthrough happened. I thought about my father, and fifteen years after he died, I finally stopped avoiding the loss. Everything I had pushed aside came out. It was the hardest night I have lived through, and the start of the real change.
The next morning I bought a coffee and some bread, sat down with a pen and paper, and started writing. I wrote about what had happened, what I had lost and, most of all, why.
That last question changed the direction of my life.
The work
Cracking the code.
I had always been fascinated by neuroscience, so I studied it properly. I also began exploring my Sikh faith more deeply. I wanted to understand behaviour, including my own. Why did I repeat the same patterns? Why could I see what needed doing and still not do it?
I did not lack knowledge. I did not lack ambition. I did not even lack motivation. I lacked discipline, and more than that, the right kind of discipline.
I had been trying to fix a problem of consistency with more motivation. I worked intensely when something excited me, and had no system for the days the excitement went. I depended on how I felt, not on what I had committed to do.
So I changed how I operated: how I made decisions, how I managed my attention, how I treated my health and how I followed through. I stopped treating every new idea as something I had to chase. I stopped waiting to feel ready, and I started doing the work.
The result
One decision at a time.
I changed how I ate and took responsibility for my body. I went from 147.5 kg to 90 kg, and the journey is still on. Not through a miracle, but through sustained changes in how I live.
I applied the same principles to work. I stopped chasing every idea and focused on execution, building businesses that complement one another. They now span Australia, Lithuania, the United Kingdom and Dubai, and I continue to expand. Along the way I have travelled more than 300,000 kilometres.
I did not become more intelligent or more ambitious. The difference was how I approached execution. Consistency is worth more than intensity, and finishing one worthwhile thing matters more than starting ten.
I still have ideas. I still see opportunities everywhere. What changed is my ability to turn them into reality.
